Artist's Description

A tornado siren in the ghost town of Picher, Oklahoma. Located in Ottawa County in northeastern Oklahoma, the town of Picher was condemned and subject to eminent domain due to lead in the drinking water resulting from years of lead & zinc mining. Additionally, in May 2008, the town was struck by an EF4 tornado, accelerating the exodus of the remaining residents. Picher stands as a ghost town, with evidence of the damage from the 2008 tornado still visible in many areas. This photograph was taken in June 2010.
