A developing tornado (visible between the two closest telephone poles) shrouded in heavy rain and large hail associated with the mesocyclone (rotating updraft) of a monstrous supercell thunderstorm near Piedmont, OK on May 29, 2012. The National Weather Service Forecast Office in Norman, OK later rated the tornado as an EF1 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale. Shortly after this photograph was taken, extremely large hail (up to 5" in diameter) fell at the photographer's location.
