Description
An explosively developing supercell thunderstorm near New Castle, Texas on May 17, 2013. Note the generally rain-free base below the cumulonimbus clouds associated with the storm's mesocyclone (a persistent strong, rotating updraft). Eventually, this storm combined with another updraft to its south and produced up to 3.0" hail as well as 2 tornadoes near Eliasville, TX, the strongest of which was rated as an EF1 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale.
